1983 Honda CX650 Custom
This is a great little bike that gets me around during our very short summer
riding season. This is a pretty rare Honda as less than 1200 of this model
were ever made. This is number 0049 of 1177 made. They stopped production
on this model as Honda did not want it to compete with the new Shadow
model (the Honda Shadow is still in production today and is a great bike).
The 674cc engine on this bike was also used in the European model, the
famous (and rare) turbo model and a small amount of Silverwings.
This is a great commuter bike (not a cruiser) and is a lot of fun to ride.
I get on average 58 MPG which is not to shabby. She will do 0 to 60 in
about 3 seconds flat with a top speed (governed) of 112 MPH. The engine
is a 674cc 60 degree V-Twin producing 60 horsepower. A 5 speed tranny
dumps all that power to the shaft drive. With the saddlebags and a full
tank of gas she weighs in at 440 pounds.
As of today, June 1st 2011 Mileage is only 6,762 (barely broken in)
There is some corrosion on the aluminum parts after 28 years but
the rest of the bike is in near mint condition. I have spent 100's of
hours working on this machine to keep it in this condition. It runs
as good as she looks, there are no issues here at all...
Below is a small slideshow of the bike in pieces this spring. A lot of things needed to be delt with due
to the fact it was built in late 1982. Just about anything that gets too close to me, gets the same treatment
I give the radios........
